Standard settings and the rights of the child

Mr. Gudbrandsson has been active in the work of the Council of Europe for more than two decades, participated in the making of numerous human rights instruments, recommendations and guidelines on the rights of the child in diverse contexts. Mr. Guðbrandsson’s active participation, both as an independent expert and country representative in intergovernmental work in European regional organisations has largely contributed to the construction of a solid arsenal of core European legal instruments protecting children in alternative care, strengthening justice systems, and promoting health and social service systems that are child friendly. He has often described this work as an endeavor to “operationalize” the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) with the aim of making the CRC a living tool to enhance the quality of life and empower children in all parts of the world.  Mr. Gudbrandsson has participated in projects and has been on CoE missions to numerous states in Europe, advocating for children´s rights, training and presenting. These countries include Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Cyprus, Moldova, Slovenia, Ukraine and Tunisia.
