External Trade

Free and open trade policies are the foundation for Iceland's economic success and general welfare. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ Directorate for External Trade and Economic Affairs aims to advance the interests of Icelandic citizens, companies and consumers by ensuring their access to global markets and strengthening free trade.

The Directorate for External Trade is responsible for multilateral and bilateral trade agreements and various other diplomatic tasks related to foreign trade. The Directorate pursues its mission in close cooperation with national stakeholders and trade related organisations, both at home and abroad through its embassies and missions. It covers a wide area of responsibility, including the EEA Agreement, the Schengen Agreement, EFTA, OECD and WTO.

The department for business and culture promotion and services, supports and promotes Icelandic businesses, arts and culture worldwide.
