100 years of Icelandic sovereignty celebrated in Winnipeg

100 years of Icelandic sovereignty was celebrated with a reception and concert at the Icelandic Consulate in Winnipeg on December 1st, at which nearly 100 guests joined to participate and share this special day.

Thórdur Bjarni Guðjónsson, The Consul General of Iceland in Winnipeg, gave a speech and welcomed guests, the address by the President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson was read, and poet David Gislason spoke. He and his wife, Judy Sólveig Richardson, were invited to be guests at the Centennial Celebration at Thingvellir last July. 

Furthermore, Manitoba´s Icelandic Choir, Sólskrikjan Kór, performed at the celebrations. Most of the participants in the Choir are women of Icelandic descent.
