Iceland Symphony tour of Japan a big success

The Iceland Symphony Orchestra has returned back to Iceland after a successful tour of Japan. The orchestra performed twelve sold-out concerts in all the major cities in Japan, e.g. Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo and Hamamatsu. The conductor was Vladimir Ashkenazy, the Iceland Symphony’s Conductor Laureate, and the soloist was the Japanese piano star Nobuyuki Tsujii. The programme consisted of Gletscherlied by Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson, Piano Concertos no. 2 by Chopin and Rachmaninoff and Symphonies no. 2 by Sibelius and Rachmaninoff.

The orchestra performed twelve concerts around Japan for an audience of 25.000 people and received warm receptions at every venue.
