Iceland´s Ambassador on Arctic Affairs in Japan

Iceland's Ambassador on Arctic Affairs and Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials Einar Gunnarsson this week met with Japanese colleagues in Tokyo, including Japan's new Ambassador in Charge of Arctic Affairs Mari Miyoshi, Olympics Minister Shunichi Suzuki, Shinako Tsuchiya, Chairman of Iceland´s Parliamentary Friendship League at the Japanese Diet and Japan´s International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Ambassador of Iceland to Japan Elin Flygenring also hosted a seminar on Iceland's Chairmanship Program of the Arctic Council, where Mr. Gunnarsson held the keynote speech.

With sustainable development as an overarching theme, Iceland Chairmanhip Program will highlight four priorities: The Arctic Marine Environment, Climate and Green Energy Solutions, People and Communities of the Arctic, and a Stronger Arctic Council.

Iceland is honored to assume Chairmanship of the Arctic Council for the second time and welcomes the opportunity to contribute to strengthened Arctic cooperation.

In 2020, Iceland and Japan will co-host the third Arctic Science Ministerial in Tokyo.
