Icelandic Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture visits China

Kristján Þór Júlíusson, Icelandic Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, visited China from 28-31 October 2019. During the visit, Kristján attended the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo in Qingdao which is the largest fisheries fair in Asia and the second largest globally. Icelandic companies have been among the main exhibitors at the Expo since its inception in 1996 and this year 11 Icelandic companies exhibited their products and services.

Kristján Þór participated in the opening session of the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo along with Yu Kangzheng, China´s vice minister of agriculture and Harald Tom Nesvik minister of fisheries of Norway. Mr. Júlíusson also met with China´s vice minister of Customs and the mayor of Qingdao during his visit to China.

The fisheries sector makes up the vast majority of Icelandic exports of goods to China which have tripled since the implementation of the Iceland-China Free Trade Agreement in 2014.
