Tomas Heidar elected judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea

Today, Tomas Heidar, Legal Adviser of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, was elected as Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) at the 24th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in New York. 

Mr. Heidar will join the Tribunal on 1 October 2014 for a nine-year term. He has been Legal Adviser since 1996 and is also the Director of the Law of the Sea Institute of Iceland. 

The Tribunal, which consists of 21 Judges, is based in Hamburg, Germany.
