Re-Granting of Icelandic Citizenship

The Icelandic Directorate of Immigration draws attention to the fact that the deadline for applying for the re-granting of Icelandic citizenship under the Interim Provision of the Icelandic Citizenship Act, No. 100/1952 is 1 July 2016.

Under this provision, persons who acquired the citizenship of another state before 1 July 2003, and lost their Icelandic citizenship in consequence without this being demanded by the state concerned, may apply to the Directorate of Immigration to be granted Icelandic citizenship anew.  Applicants shall be domiciled in Iceland or shall meet the residence requirements stated in Article 12 of the Act.

Further information on the re-granting of Icelandic citizenship is available on the website of the Directorate.
