The Development Fund for Immigration Issues is open for application for the year 2009.

The Immigration Council announces that they are open for applications for grants from the Development Fund for Immigration Issues. The Fund's purpose is to enhance research and development projects in the field of immigration issues with the goal of facilitating mutual adjustment between immigrants and Icelandic society. This time special emphasis will be placed on the following challenges:

  • The impact of the economic situation on the position of immigrants and, in particular, the impact of long-term unemployment.
  • Emphasis of the government action plan for immigration affairs.

Other projects will also be considered.

Grants must, as a rule, be awarded to associations, unions and public entities. Immigrant grassroots associations and interest groups are encouraged to apply to the Fund. Individuals will, as a rule, only be awarded grants for research. The funds available are ISK 10 million. Grants can be for up to half the total cost of a project. Applications can be written in Icelandic or English.

The closing date for applications is 15. January 2010. Applications for grants must be made on special forms which are available from the website of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Security. There you may also find the Icelandic government's policy on immigrant affairs, the government action plan on immigrant affairs and the Rules for the Development Fund for Immigration Issues, with further information on preconditions for the awarding of grants. Confidentiality is maintained in the handling of applications.
