Consular Services
The Consulate distributes information about Iceland and promotes Icelandic businesses and Icelandic Canadian relations in general. The Consulate also assists Icelandic nationals and firms as may be needed.
The Consulate General does not renew Icelandic passports but can issue an emergency passport to Icelandic citizens that need to get back to Iceland, where they can apply for a renewal of their current passport.
Note: Emergency passports are not ideal travel documents.
Canadian citizens carrying a valid Canadian passport do not need visas when visiting Iceland or the Schengen countries as tourists for less than three (3) months. Also, the passport has to be valid at least three (3) months beyond intended stay.
Canadian citizens wanting to stay longer or reside in Iceland must apply for a residence permit at the Directorate of Immigrations.
All travelers to Iceland must be in possession of a passport, valid at least for three months beyond their intended stay. In addition to that, nationals of many countries are required to obtain a visa prior to entering Iceland.
SCHENGEN VISAS
Iceland is a member of the Schengen cooperation which exempts travelers from border controls travelling between 26 EU and EFTA countries. A uniform Schengen visa issued by one of the Schengen states is valid for travel within the whole Schengen area. Schengen visa should be applied for at an Embassy representing the state where the main destination is within the Schengen area.
All persons requiring visas, must apply for a visa at the applicable embassy/consulate before travelling to the Schengen area. For a list of embassies/consulates which handle applications for Iceland, see here.
