Export from Iceland to the US (presentation)

United States

  • Tourism from the US to Iceland decreased by 33% between 2019 and 2018 vs a record year in 2018 with close to 700.000 tourists from the US to Iceland. The main reason is the fall of WOW air in March 2019 and other airlines dropping locations in the US. The US accounted for 23.4% (464.000) of the total followed by the UK at 13.2%, Germany at 6.7% and China at 5%. N-America is the largest market area for Iceland with 534.000 passengers in 2019. Just over 50.000 tourists visited Iceland from the US in 2020.
  • Total export between years:
    • 2019-2020 remained status quo between years

  • The US accounts for 10% of the total export in value of seafood from Iceland and the US is the third largest importer of Icelandic seafood. The numbers do not include farmed species. The US are the largest importer of farmed Arctic Char and number six when it comes to farmed salmon. A portion of Icelandic salmon is processed in Poland, Denmark and Holland and exported from there to the US, so the market size is to some extent larger than the direct export numbers tell.
