The Embassy of Iceland participated in partnership with Visit Iceland in the China-ASEAN Tourism Exhibition in Guilin, China. Some 50 countries participated including many of the most renowned tourist destinations in Europe. Ambassador Thórir Ibsen took part in the opening of the expo as guest of honour and met on that occasion with Mr. ZHANG Xu, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, Mr. Li Bin, Vice Governor of Guangxi, Mr. ZHOU Jiabin, Secretary of the CPC in Guilin and Mr. LI Chu, Mayor of Guilin.
While long-distance travel is still hampered by Covid related restrictions, the tourist sector in Asia is adjusting to a new business environment and preparing for progressive reduction of restrictions in the coming weeks and months. Representative of Visit Iceland had over 20 business discussions with different companies in the Chinese travel sector at the B2B conference organized by the Exhibition organizer. There is a strong interest in Iceland among the Chinese tourism professionals in preparation for eventual recovery of international travel.
