Senior officials from Iceland and Greenland met in Reykjavík on Wednesday to review the bilateral cooperation between the countries. The meeting was part of regular consultations between the countries based on a cooperation declaration signed by the Prime Ministers of Iceland Greenland in Reykjavík on 13 October 2022 on increased cooperation. There is a mutual desire to strengthen and expand the already considerable bilateral cooperation between the countries.

The declaration identifies seven areas of special emphasis: trade, fisheries, economic cooperation, climate change and biodiversity, gender equality, education and research, and cultural cooperation. In recent years, cooperation between Iceland and Greenland has increased to the benefit of both countries, who share a variety of common interests and opportunities and face similar challenges regarding climate and environmental matters.

The meeting in Reykjavík reviewed the countries' cooperation in each of the areas of interest underlined in the declaration, the progress of projects and further opportunities for action, as well as networking between officials. Current and important issues were also on the agenda.

In addition to regular consultations between senior officials from the countries, the declaration stipulates that the Prime Minister of Iceland and the Chairman of the Greenlandic Government meet every other year, alternately in Reykjavík and Nuuk, to review the progress of projects related to the declaration of cooperation.
