Republic of Iceland buys back 400 million of own bonds denominated in USD

Republic of Iceland has purchased for cancellation nominal value of 400 million USD of the bond series “ICELAND 4.875% 06/16/16” (ISIN USX3446PDH48/US451029AD49). On 27 July 2015, the Republic of Iceland, launched an invitation to holders of its bond issuance from 2011 with maturity in June 2016. The issued total nominal value was U.S.$1,000,000,000. During the first quarter of 2015, the Treasury bought around 10% of the total issue,  so the outstanding debt in the above-specified bond series is now 503 million USD or around 68 bn. ISK. The repurchase of the bonds is an element in the Treasury´s liquidity and debt management strategy.
