Canada's Fall Federal Election: Outcomes and Implications - Recording from Event

On September 22nd the Icelandic-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Iceland in Ottawa held a virtual panel discussion on Canada´s latest federal election. Discussed were the results of the September 20th election and their implications for the future on issues of shared interest to Icelandic and Canadian stakeholders alike.

Hlynur Guðjónsson is Iceland´s Ambassador to Canada. Hlynur brings with him over 30 years of experience in international trade and investment, public relations and marketing, and politics in North America and Iceland. Immediately prior to his appointment as Ambassador, he served for 15 years at the Consulate of Iceland in New York as Consul, Consul General and Trade Commissioner for North America. Ambassador Gudjonsson holds degrees in Marketing and Communication as well as Political History from Emerson College (USA) and the University of Iceland, respectively.

Adam Kalbfleisch is the Chair of the Icelandic Canadian Chamber of Commerce and is also Iceland's Honourary Consul for Toronto. Adam is recognized as a leading Canadian competition/antitrust and foreign investment lawyer, with over 20 years of experience in significant transactional and other matters.

Eddie Goldenberg is a Canadian lawyer and writer who served as chief policy advisor to Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien from 1993 to 2003, and subsequently as the Prime Minister´'s Chief of Staff. He later joined Bennett Jones LLP in Ottawa and serves as co-head of the firm's government affairs and public policy practice. Mr. Goldenberg is the author of The Way It Works, a book about his experiences working with Prime Minister Chrétien.

Per Unheim is a senior international affairs professional with work experience in 15 countries around the world. Prior to joining the Embassy of Iceland in Canada in 2021 as Political and Trade Officer, he worked for over 14 years with Canada's largest international development consulting firm, Cowater International, most recently as Director of Strategic Initiatives. His experience is reinforced by graduate degrees from the London School of Economics and Political Science and Ottawa’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs.
