Iceland emphasized that human rights are universal and concern everyone, everywhere, at the opening of the OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) in Warsaw, Poland, 10-21 September 2018.

In his address, Guðni Bragason, Permanent Representative of Iceland in Vienna, said i. a. that on the seventieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Iceland remained fully committed to the promotion and protection of human rights. The protection of human rights was  an essential part of the work of the OSCE and that there was a clear interaction between human rights, peace and security and economic development.
The Permanent Representative referred to Iceland taking a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for the first time, and elaborated on three important issues in that context; gender equality, the protection of children and the rights of LGBTI individuals.
The HDIM-meeting is held by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and is attended by ca 1500 representatives of member states, international organizations and civil society.
