The Commission on Developments in Europe concluded its work

The Commission on Developments in Europe concluded its work today and delivered a report in accordance with the tasking contained in the government´s programme of action. The Commission has worked for one year and was composed of the representatives of political parties in the Althingi and organisations concerned with the labour market. The co-chairmen were Mr. Agust Olafur Agustsson, Member of the Althingi, and Mr. Illugi Gunnarsson, Member of the Althingi.

The Commission did not reach a common substantive conclusion and the positions of individual representatives are reflected seperately.

The report contains, inter alia:

An overview over the implementation of the recommendations of the previous Commission on Europe in government ministries.

  • A paper on the effects of the Lisbon Treaty on the EEA and Iceland.
  • A compilation from the Commission´s visit to Brussels.
  • A paper on Iceland´s possible adoption of the euro without membership of the EU.
  • An overview over the responses to a questionnaire sent to stakeholders.
  • A paper by the Institute of Economic Studies of the University of Iceland on the currency issue.
