Foreign Minister reiterates that sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected

One year has passed since the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia. At this point in time Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, Minister for Foreign Affairs, reiterates that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected. He repeats the condemnation of Russia´s military actions in Crimea in February and March 2014 and of the illegitimate "referendum" that took place in Crimea on 16 March 2014.

The Minister says that due to the violation of international law caused by Russia´s actions in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea European security and international law and order has been undermined. This is a cause of concern for Iceland, which places respect for international law as a key pillar of our foreign policy and for our relations with other countries. He underscores the urgency of all parties to respect the Minsk agreement and that all its provisions will be implemented.
