Pre-election for the 2021 Icelandic parliamentary elections starts on August 13th at the Consulate General of Iceland in New York.
Our offices will be open for voting by appointment only Mon-Fri from 9:30am to 3:30pm and appointments should be made via email at: [email protected].
Voters are required to show an Icelandic picture ID (passport/driver licence) for verification and wear a mask at all times while in the building.
Voters are responsible for getting their own vote to their respective polling sites in Iceland, therefore voters are encouraged to make early voting appointments in order to leave ample time for the vote to reach its destination in time for election day on September 25th.
Icelandic nationals who have had a legal domicile abroad for less than 8 years (counting from 1 December in the year before the election year) have automatic voting rights in Iceland. They must have reached the age of 18 on election day and have had a legal domicile in Iceland at some point.
Icelandic nationals who have had a legal domicile abroad for more than 8 years (counting from 1 December in the year before the election year) should contact Register Iceland in order to get information about their voting status.
