Nominations are now open for the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir's Prize for Women's Empowerment. The award was established in Reykjavík last May on the eve of the Council of Europe summit.

Sponsored by the Council of Europe and the Government of Iceland, the award aims to recognize individuals, institutions, or organizations that exceptionally promote or support women's empowerment. This includes actions fostering gender equality, enhancing women's social participation, or drawing attention to the unequal status of women and encouraging improvements.

The award is named after former president of Iceland, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first woman elected as a Head of State. The prize money is 60,000 euros, and the award ceremony will take place for the first time in June next year in Strasbourg, France.

The deadline for submitting nominations is 15 February 2024, and nominations should be sent to the email address [email protected]. Please use this form for submission:
