Ambassador Visited The Beijing HQ of Iceland’s Arctic Green Energy

Ambassador Thorir Ibsen and William Freyr Huntingdon-Williams DHoM of the Embassy of Iceland in Beijing, visited the Beijing HQ of Iceland’s Arctic Green Energy in China. They were received by CEO Xin Charlotte Zhao and her management team. They discussed the remarkable contribution the company has made in reducing China’s carbon footprint through the Sinopec Green Energy joint venture offering geothermal alternative for house heating.

Arctic Green Energy formed Sinopec Green Energy, a JV with China’s Sinopec, in 2006. Sinopec Green Energy has become the world’s largest geothermal district heating company with 700 employees, having built 719 heat centrals across 60 cities/counties in China and drilled 724 wells.  Today the company has generated 46.500 GWth since 2006 and annually produces 15 MWe. Most of the company’s activities are in Hebei, Shaanxi, Shandong and  Tianjin and other areas are currently being added. To date, Sinopec Green Energy has saved 16 million tons of CO2 emissions.
